Red Dragon

Red dragons are the largest of the chromatic dragons. With their enormous size, massive wingspan, and two horns that point backwards towards their tails, they are hard to mistake for other dragons. Red dragons also constantly smell of smoke and sulfur and possess ruby red scales which plate their bodies with a protective layer.

These large dragons can be found within the Kallaha Desert near B'Ahal Bäe. In fact, half dragons are sometimes seen within the desert city itself and are highly respected (and feared) within it. Led by Lord Draman, the well-known and massive ancient red dragon, these creatures mainly keep to themselves unless their leader orders otherwise. They are sarcastic and would rather not help the average adventurer. They usually resort to intimidation or insults when meeting other creatures that they consider to be "lesser." After the Dragon Wars, the red dragons also were left as the most populous species of dragon. Due to a quest to become the one and True Dragon, Draman slaughtered hundreds of other species of dragons. In particular, the Coppers were completely wiped out by his insatiable appetite for blood.

The breeding behavior of red dragons is similar to many other dragon species. The female will lay a clutch of eggs. However, during the incubation period the eggs must remain in open flame at all times. Both parents take turns at dousing the eggs with flame during this period, which takes approximately 660 days. Once the eggs hatch, the young red dragons are mainly self-sufficient and are around the size of a full-grown human. However, the parents still care for their young the first few days after they hatch. Afterwards, they largely allow their young to fend for themselves.

All red dragons can breathe fire, which manifests at a very young age. They can also stand intense temperatures that would destroy any other creature. However, they are intensely vulnerable to cold. Spending too long in the Northlands can kill a red dragon.

These creatures, like many other dragons, have an eye for jewels and valuables. They love to create vast hoardes of treasure, which they guard jealously within their lair.

Dragons are highly proficient at magic and their fighting style reflects this. They will often follow physical attacks with their magic. In battle with other dragons, they often try to overwhelm them with their physical bulk. Although red dragons are less agile than some other species of dragons, they are usually able to defeat others by their sheer strength.
