Gold Dragon

Gold dragons have a spectacular appearance. They possess hard, golden-colored scales which completely cover their large bodies. They possess several "whiskers" which hang from their faces along with prominent horns. Smelling of saffron and incense, these creatures are able to breathe fire.

Nearly decimated during the Dragon Wars, gold dragons have mainly withdrawn from the world in order to repopulate. They live on a volcanically active island off of the coast of Nherazkar and, although wary of strangers, try to help those in need. Gold dragons like their humanoid form more than other dragons, and often appear to adventurers in such a form rather than as a towering dragon.

Similar to red dragons, gold dragon eggs must be incubated over open flames. Hatchlings look very similar to adult gold dragons, though they lack the horns and "whiskers" that their parents possess. Both parents care intensely for their young, and take a special interest in their education and well-being.

A defining characteristic of gold dragons is their lairs. Unlike the rough-hewn creations of other dragons, gold dragons take pains to decorate and furnish their homes. They are often described as being underground mansions and not only contain fine furnishings, but are also often graced with the treasures that they have collected over the years. In particular, gold dragons cherish art as one of their favorite treasures to possess. They also will collect anything they consider to be beautiful.

Gold dragons are slow to engage in combat. They will usually try reasoning with their oponent and talking with them carefully before resorting to physical violence. However, once the gold dragon crosses that line, he is formidable. Gold dragons have a fiery breath which rivals that of red dragons. They are also vastly persistent and, like paladins, will pour all of their strength into a battle against evil.
